The Thrift Store opened in 1988 and has since become a financial asset to Helping Hands. In addition to providing an income stream for the House, the Store provides much of the clothing for the children. The children often come to us with little more than the clothes they are wearing and the Department of Social Services requires that each child have at least three complete outfits that are age, gender and season appropriate.
The Store operates under the management of Sandra Bush, a former store volunteer who went on to become store manager in 2001. Sandra operates the store with the help of a crew of volunteers, many who have come from Clemson University, Southern Wesleyan University, Daniel High School and various churches, as well as the community at large.
The Store runs completely on donations of time, money and goods. In addition to clothes, we accept sports equipment, kitchen wares, books, shoes, electronics, toys and furniture.
